Why Fatboy Challenge?

Our mission is to change lives by promoting healthy positivity in a fun, supportive environment.

The challenge was designed to bring all FatBoys(& girls) together, share tips & tricks, and encourage each other to pursue their individual health goals.

2022 Challenge Rules

  • Timeline: 50 Days - 1/19-3/9

  • Cost to Enter: $25

    • Winner takes all

    • Loser & all Quitters added to Wall of Shame and compete for the "Flubbermaster Award"

  • Scoring Criteria: Tracked Weekly, but using One-Time Totals for calculating Winner

    • 1. Transformation Photo - Best before to after photo transformation (judged by 3 person non biased panel)

    • 2. Total Body Fat Percentage Lost

    • 3. Total Workout Minutes Logged

  • Points System: Scored separately for each category (i.e. 1 = lowest score, 8 = highest score). Total Points determine winner. Maximum points achievable is 24

FAQs

General:

  • What is a Fatboy? Fatboy is a term of endearment. In our family and circle, the Fatboy was the lover of life, happy, productive eater at the dinner table. Being a FatBoy isn't connected to physical appearance. It's someone who can EAT, finds extreme satisfaction in a buffet, and doesn't back down from a food challenge.

On the other hand, being a "Gavone" is not okay. A Gavone eats like a pig in an unsatisfying way.

  • Isn't this shaming? Is this okay? We think so. Each contestant has voluntary joined. Our challenge has a fine distinction from Positive Shaming & Destructive Ridicule. Shame has served as a force for good since humans tribal days (Source). Our challenge's positive shame motivates each contestant to not quit on their goals.

  • How can I join? We'll find you.


2022 Challenge:

  • How are workout minutes collected & tracked? The official tracking will be done on Strava but you may track on any device you have available (i.e. Apple Health, Garmin, NikeWorkout, Peloton, Spreadsheets, a pen & Paper). Each contestant is responsible for sending their weekly totals each Wednesday.

  • What are guidelines for before & after photos? Photos are taken with shirt off. You make take up to 5 Photos for best dramatic effect. (examples - Front, Left-Side, Right-Side, Back Flexed, Front Flexed)

  • How do I measure my body fat percentage? We will be using simple skin calipers. Buy here - Amazon Body Fat Calipers

  • How can I make sure my body fat measurements are accurate? Use the same body fat calipers or measuring tool for each measurement. Measure the same spot each time (side of stomach), read caliper instructions carefully, and DON'T cheat! We will question you & make you take measurements under video review if something seems fishy.

  • What is the Flubbermaster Award? You win the Flubbermaster award for either quitting the challenge or scoring the lowest points. The First quitter and/or lowest point scorer will be crowned "Chief Flubbermaster" and featured on our wall of shame.
